FAQ

Common questions about setting up BUTT encoder for live streaming with Server Room.

Where do I find my Server Room streaming address, port and password?

Your streaming address and port number are in the email that activated your station, and the source password is in Centova Cast under Settings — open it with the Login to Centova button in your Server Room dashboard. On Icecast, the mount point is /stream and the encoder username is source. Use the address and port from the email, not the ones under Live Source Connections in Centova, which do not take an Icecast encoder.

Which audio format and bitrate should I use?

MP3 at the bitrate of your plan — 32, 64 or 128 kbps, the panel refuses a higher one — with a 44100 Hz sample rate on a stereo channel is recommended. A lower bitrate than your plan allows suits listeners on slower connections.

Can I use BUTT with an Icecast server?

Yes, and every new Server Room station runs Icecast. In the BUTT server settings, select Icecast as the server type, enter the mount point /stream and the username source, along with your station’s address, the port from your activation email, and your source password.

Why does BUTT fail to connect?

Double-check that your streaming address, port, and password are entered exactly as shown in your activation email and in Centova Cast. Also ensure your firewall is not blocking the streaming port and that your Server Room radio service is active.

What should I do if listeners can hear silence or distortion?

Go to BUTT's audio settings and confirm the correct input device is selected. Make sure Stereo Mix (or the equivalent on your system) is enabled in your Windows Sound settings so BUTT captures audio properly.
