What's the difference between SHOUTcast and Icecast?
SHOUTcast and Icecast are both popular streaming server protocols with key differences. SHOUTcast was developed by Nullsoft and is widely compatible with legacy players, while Icecast is an open-source alternative with support for multiple mount points. Icecast is the default here: every new Server Room station is built on it, and we can move yours to SHOUTcast on request. Which software encoder should I use for live audio streaming?
The best encoder depends on your use case. BUTT (Broadcast Using This Tool) is ideal for simple live broadcasts, Mixxx is great for DJs who need on-the-fly mixing, and SAM Cast suits professional radio automation. How do I configure my encoder to connect to a SHOUTcast or Icecast server?
You'll need your server hostname, port number, mount point (for Icecast), and source password - the hostname and port are in the email that activated your station, and the source password is in Centova Cast under Settings. On Icecast, the mount point is /stream and the encoder username is source, on every plan. Enter these credentials in your encoder's server settings.
