Shipping the webOS package to LG Smart TVs

The LG build is an unsigned .ipk produced with ares-package; LG applies its own signature when the app is submitted, so there are no certificates to manage. The work is in the paperwork LG requires, a current self-checklist and a UX scenario, and in waiting out QA.

Seller account: free Signed by LG at submission webOS 4.x+, 2018 sets onward

Procedure

Seller Lounge labels change between revisions of the site; each step states what the screen is for, which survives a rename.

1

Register as a seller

  1. Sign up at seller.lgappstv.com.
  2. Register as an individual or a corporate seller and complete the profile. There is no registration fee.
2

Build the .ipk

  1. Build LG under Build your apps.
  2. Download the LG package (.ipk). Leave it unsigned: LG signs submitted packages itself.

The package declares the app ID from the panel's Store identifiers in its appinfo.json. That ID cannot change after publication.

3

Create the app and upload the package

  1. Start a new app registration in Seller Lounge.
  2. Where an app ID is requested, enter the webOS ID from Store identifiers so it matches the package's appinfo.json.
  3. Upload the .ipk.
4

Attach assets and listing details

  1. Icon: lg/icon-400x400.png, meeting LG's 400 × 400 minimum.
  2. Background: lg/background-1920x1080.jpg.
  3. Screenshots: one main image and two to five additional ones, captured in the webOS TV Simulator or on an LG set.
  4. Description, category and the generated privacy policy URL.
5

Prepare the self-checklist and UX scenario

  1. Download the self-checklist from Seller Lounge at the time of submission. LG rejects outdated checklist templates outright, so a copy saved from an earlier submission is not safe to reuse.
  2. Write the UX scenario: the screen flow and the function of each key. The template's screens are Home, Live, the video detail page, the video player, Search and About, plus the exit dialog.
  3. State the input model explicitly: D-pad focus throughout, Magic Remote pointer supported, Back up one level, and no login.
6

Submit for QA

  1. Submit. LG's QA tests the app on its own sets.
  2. Budget several weeks: reported turnarounds run from three weeks to three months. Answer any QA queries in Seller Lounge.
  3. On approval, the app is published to LG's store.

Updates: rebuild LG in the panel, upload the new .ipk with a fresh checklist where LG asks for one, and resubmit. Every update goes through QA again. Content from the feed, including videos and links, never requires one.
