Stay with Hivelocity if

you need a city we do not have, such as Frankfurt, London, Tokyo or Sydney;
your servers sit well under 20 TB a month and will stay there;
you want a recent desktop-class Xeon at the bottom of the range.

Move to Server Room if

you serve video, downloads, backups, mirrors or a CDN origin, where bytes add up;
you want the bill fixed before the month starts;
you need a real server for less than Hivelocity's cheapest listing;

Moving from Hivelocity, in four steps

Order first. The build is quick. The payment and fraud check before it is the part that varies, so get it out of the way before you plan a cutover date.
Get the server. About 30 minutes after approval for a machine already in the rack, 4 to 24 hours for a build to order.
Copy and test. Sync the data, run the application on the new box and point a test hostname at it.
Cut over, then wait. Stop writes, sync the last changes, switch DNS. Keep the Hivelocity server for a month as your way back.

What is a good Hivelocity alternative?

If your traffic would run past a 20 TB allowance, pick a host whose ports carry no allowance at all. Server Room rents dedicated servers in New York, Miami, San Francisco, Amsterdam and Bucharest with no transfer cap and no overage fee on any port. If you need a city in Asia, Africa or South America, Hivelocity covers places we do not.

Is Hivelocity bandwidth unmetered?

Not by default. Hivelocity's knowledge base says metered servers include 5 to 20 TB a month, with overage billed at $0.05 per GB. It also sells unmetered 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps ports, priced per server in its cart.

How much bandwidth comes with a Hivelocity dedicated server?

Every server on hivelocity.net/dedicated-servers on 3 October 2026 showed 20 TB a month: on a 1 Gbps port for the two smallest and on 10 Gbps for the rest. The same page promises at least 10 TB of outbound transfer on every server, and inbound traffic is free.

Are Server Room servers really unmetered?

Yes. No dedicated server we sell has a transfer allowance on its port, and there is no overage price for one. You pay for the speed of the port, not for the bytes that cross it.

Is there a Hivelocity alternative under $75 a month?

Yes. Our smallest machine is an HP Moonshot M700 cartridge (AMD Opteron X2150 APU, 4 cores 1.1GHz · 8 GB RAM · SATA-SSD 32 GB · 500 Mbps unmetered) at $5/mo plus $13 setup, once. It is a whole physical server with root access and an unmetered port. Hivelocity's cheapest listed server was $75 a month when we checked.
