San Francisco dedicated server Whole machines on the West Coast
A San Francisco dedicated server from Server Room is a physical machine rented to you alone, racked in Digital Realty's OAK10 building at 720 2nd Street in Oakland, across the bay from the city, and routed on our own network, AS19624.
- Unmetered bandwidth
- AS19624
- Bare metal, full root
- Billed in USD, monthly
It is our only California location and the closest of our five data centers to Asia. Ping the test IP from your users' network before you order, then build the server in the configurator and choose San Francisco as the location.

Bare metal servers you can order in San Francisco
Not every server line is sold in every city. These are the lines the configurator offers in San Francisco today, read from the order catalogue each time this page loads. The price is the line's standard build per month: its default processor, memory and drives. You change any of them in the configurator, which prices the port, extra IPs and options as you go.

Who it serves
A West Coast dedicated server, and the shortest path to Asia
Put the server where most of your users are. Distance sets the floor for latency and no hardware buys it back. San Francisco is the right pick when your users are on the US West Coast, in the Bay Area or across the Pacific.
For a Silicon Valley dedicated server, this is the site to look at. Digital Realty files OAK10 under its Silicon Valley metro, and the building sits in the Bay Area, across the bay from San Francisco. For a California dedicated server it is the only choice we have: none of our other four locations is in the state.
Traffic to Asia crosses the Pacific directly instead of crossing the United States first. On 27 September 2026 we measured 134 ms from San Francisco to China Telecom in Shanghai, against 196 ms from New York. China Mobile answered Amsterdam faster that day, so test both if most of your users are on it. The full measurements are on serving users in China.
| Most of your users are in | Pair San Francisco with |
|---|---|
| California, Oregon, Washington | Nothing else needed |
| The whole United States | New York, for the East Coast |
| Asia-Pacific, China Telecom | Nothing else needed |
| China Mobile | Amsterdam, after testing both |
| US and Europe | Amsterdam |
Measure first
Test the San Francisco network before you order
The numbers that count are the ones from your users' networks. The test IP is a live host in our San Francisco rack. Ping it and trace the route from a machine on the network your users are on.
The browser speed test measures both directions. Its download figure is the direction your users care about: server to them. With iperf3 installed, the -R flag measures that same direction from a terminal.
A traceroute usually shows a hop named oak02 just before our network. That is Oakland, where our transit carrier, Cogent, hands the circuit to our rack. It is the right city, not a wrong one.
From a terminal
ping 198.145.121.234 traceroute 198.145.121.234 iperf3 -c 198.145.121.234 -R
On Windows, use tracert for the second command, or pathping to see loss on each hop over a few minutes.
Our looking glass runs from our routers in New York and Bucharest, not San Francisco. For a trace from the San Francisco side toward your network, ask in chat and we run it for you.

Every San Francisco server
What dedicated hosting in San Francisco includes
Every core, all the memory and every drive in the machine are yours, with root access and the operating system you pick. Nothing is shared with another customer's workload.
Rack servers and blades come with their out-of-band controller, HPE iLO, Dell iDRAC or a Supermicro BMC: a browser console, virtual media for your own ISO, power control and hardware health, published in the dashboard once you add a console login. Moonshot cartridges other than the m510 and m710x have power control only.
Need more than the included port? On the lines that carry it, a 10 Gbps unmetered port starts at $529 a month. The details are on 10 Gbps dedicated servers.
- BandwidthAn unmetered port: 1 Gbps on most lines, 500 Mbps on the smaller Moonshot cartridges, as the table shows. Nothing counts your traffic: no monthly allowance and no overage charge.
- AddressesOne IPv4 and IPv6 included, from our own space.
- DeliveryA ready server goes live about 30 minutes after the order is approved. A build to order takes 4 to 24 hours.
- BillingUS dollars, month to month, no contract.
- Service agreementNetwork downtime longer than 15 consecutive minutes earns a service credit.

How much does a San Francisco dedicated server cost?
The cheapest standard build sold in San Francisco is $28.59 a month, on the ARM 64-bit eight-core line. Every line sold here is listed on this page with its standard build price, and the configurator prices any change before you pay.
Is the San Francisco data center in San Francisco?
It is in Oakland, in Digital Realty's OAK10 building at 720 2nd Street, across the bay from San Francisco. It serves the Bay Area and the rest of the US West Coast.
Do you have bare metal servers in San Francisco?

Do you offer a San Francisco VPS?
No. In San Francisco we rent only dedicated servers. Our Cloud VPS runs in New York. If you want virtual machines on the West Coast, rent a dedicated server here and run your own hypervisor on it, such as Proxmox.
Is this a Silicon Valley or California dedicated server?
It is in the Bay Area, in Oakland, and Digital Realty files the building under its Silicon Valley metro. It is our only location in California.
How fast is a San Francisco server delivered?
About 30 minutes after the order is approved, when the machine is already racked. A server built to your configuration takes 4 to 24 hours.
How do I test latency to San Francisco?
Ping or traceroute 198.145.121.234 from a machine on your users' network, or open speedtest-sf.serverroom.net in a browser. With iperf3, run it against the same address with the -R flag to measure the server-to-user direction.
Is bandwidth in San Francisco metered?
No. Every server comes with an unmetered port, 1 Gbps on most lines and 500 Mbps on the smaller Moonshot cartridges, and nothing counts the traffic: no monthly allowance and no overage charge at any port speed.
